Day Trips

This day tour from Auckland offers you the unique opportunity to visit the Hobbiton movie set located in a farm near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand. The Hobbiton Village was part of one of the greatest movies ever: The Lord of Rings film trilogy, which was shot about 10 years ago. You can see the village on the first 10 minutes of the first Lord of the Rings movie and also on the last 10 minutes of the third movie. More recently the set was used for the next 2 movies about the Hobbits. One to be released on December 2012 and the second one on December 2013. Peter Jackson and his team finished the work in the movie set in July 2011. If you are in Auckland you will have time to visit the entire set in a guided tour, which lasts for about an hour and a half. We leave Auckland at 8:00am. After the tour we head back to our departure point: The Shire’s Rest, where you can experience a little bit of the rural New Zealand’s stunning views and sheep are waiting for you.
