Ascents of New Zealand's famous peaks are coveted as highlights in any climber's career
Although the peaks in the Southern Alps of New Zealand are only just over 3000m in height, they are similar in ruggedness and valley to summit altitude gains to the higher peaks of the Himalaya.
The Alps are wild and pristine with varied and diverse climbing challenges - sufficient to provide any climber with countless years of worthy objectives.
Adventure Consultants is based in the small alpine town of Wanaka, nestled beneath these rugged mountains. We have close access to many different mountain areas that enable us to optimise the climbing opportunities around the weather systems and conditions.
The mountain environment here is often demanding. We are faced with challenging weather conditions, heavily glaciated mountains and steep alpine faces. Yet it is from this setting that great climbers are forged and where our internationally recognised guiding operation has its roots.
At Adventure Consultants, we relish these mountains and this is reflected in the innovative and passionate way that we operate our personalised climbing and instructional programs.
We offer guided ascents of:

At Adventure Consultants we offer private trekking for small groups in the majestic Southern Alps of New Zealand. We primarily offer trips that involve alpine terrain - climbing easy peaks or crossing a high pass such as Gillespies Pass, near Mt Aspiring.
You are guided on the treks by a qualified alpine guide and you can choose between a range of trips to suit your current experience level.
Each trek is organised for a private group - which can be as small as one person, however this increases the cost - you nominate your dates and we organise the trek around your itinerary.
Some of the more popular treks include:
Mt Brewster is located on the Main Divide near the Haast Pass. It has the advantage of being rarely visited, yet a fairly short (3 hours) climb through the bush takes you up on to the alpine tussock tops. It is generally possible to walk on the Brewster glacier and climb a small peak nearby.
The spectacular Gillespies Pass connects the Young Valley with the Siberia and Wilkin valleys. A popular route with trampers as there are established huts and such luxuries as a jet boat ride available to short cut the final day down the Wilkin valley.
This exciting trip features traveling on glaciers, camping in tents and climbing your first mountain! The journey begins when we fly by helicopter into Mount Aspiring National Park. We then trace a route beneath the beautiful Mt Aspiring/ Tititea along the Bonar Glacier.
“The overall operation and guides were simply excellent, very professional and dependable. I would recommend AC and their guides to my friends.”
"Given that this was my first climbing experience it was a big responsibility for the guide doing my tuition and ascent at the same time. He was able to ascertain what was important to me both on this climb and in the future thus displaying his experience and knowledge... Barring disasters I will definitely be a repeat customer."
“I would certainly recommend AC… competent, experienced staff, terrific personalities aware of dangers and helpful to all. The best organisation I have dealt with...you get what you pay for.”
