On arrival at Matuka Lodge you will be greeted by the Matuka Lodge owners and your hosts, Peter and Jo Johnstone, with an aperitif and shown you to your room. Guests enjoy the privacy of the Lodge to themselves in the evenings when your hosts retire to the mangers residence. Included in your Matuka Lodge experience is a complimentary full breakfast featuring fresh local produce prepared by your hosts and served in-room or in the dining area.
With so much to appreciate at Matuka Lodge you will be grateful that you have booked more than just a night. If you choose to explore on your own the World Heritage listed Mount Cook National Park and Sir Edmond Hilary Centre are both within an hour’s drive, Lake Pukaki which is described “a shimmering blue jewel set into a grand alpine playground” is just a 10 minute drive away.
Matuka Lodge offers a selection of accommodation options, with both Superior King Rooms and King Rooms available. The Superior King rooms are expansive and have spacious en-suite bathrooms with double spa baths and shower. While the King Rooms have en-suites with shower. All rooms feature a private patio offering stunning mountain views across the trout pond, individual climate control and walk in wardrobes.
Your hosts will advise you on the many local activities available and will happily make bookings on your behalf. These include Lord of the Rings tours, helicopter or bi-plane flights, observatory tours, hot pools and spa experiences, fishing and the Alps2Ocean Cycle Trail. With outstanding local knowledge Jo and Peter can also recommend which of the local restaurants will best serve your needs.
However many guests simply spend their time soaking in the ambiance of the Lodge itself and are more than content relaxing in the guest lounge, exploring the library and soaking in the breathtaking landscapes in the elegant surroundings of Matuka Lodge.
