Dive the Poor Knights

Sheer cliffs plunge into a marine environment that is as unique as the islands themselves. Marine life abounds within the protected waters of the marine reserve. Dense kelp forests, sand channels, vertical walls, giant sea caves, archways and underwater caverns create vastly different habitats within a small area, providing a niche for more species of fish and invertebrates than can be found anywhere else in New Zealand coastal waters. Add to this a subtropical current that carries marine life from tropical waters, visibility that ranges from 20 to 40 metres for most of the year and you have all the ingredients for some of the best diving and snorkeling to be found anywhere in the world.

Diving the Poor Knights Islands is a unique experience. Not only do you enter the three dimensional world of the undersea, but through the many archways, tunnels and caves, you are entering the very islands themselves. This exploration is not just restricted to experienced scuba divers. Most of the archways and many of the caves are open to the surface providing safe access for all levels of experience.

“First rate operation and World Class diving.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2015
Every morning we heard on the radio about other dive operators heading out with 30+ divers on their boat and I knew I had made the right choice. Our group had seven divers and whilst the MV Mazurka is tight below decks she is a VERY functional and comfortable dive boat. Kevin runs a fantastic operation and is amazingly skilled in the kitchen! Our group was always raving about how good the food was and of course the diving! The wind and swell restricted us to one side of the islands but Kevin expertly found us sites unaffected by the conditions on the leeward side. We were all very impressed with his knowledge of the sites, marine life and professionalism. I look forward to bringing more groups back to explore the Poor Knights for years to come and would not contemplate using anyone else but Oceanblue Adventures!
