Wellington Zoo is open every day except Christmas, from 9.30am to 5pm (last entry is at 4.15pm).
Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult

Close Encounters

Impress your friends by telling them how you came face to face with, and hand-fed, a lion; got up close with a cheetah; stepped into the role of giraffe trainer; or make them jealous with pictures of you hanging out with Red Pandas or Meerkats.

Talk to the keepers, feed the animals, and find out all about how Wellington Zoo cares for their animals.

It’s an unforgettable experience and 10% of the proceeds from your encounter will go to conservation projects supported by the zoo.
